HOMELESS HATS PROJECT- KNIT AND SIT
In 2021 we started a new virtual volunteer program "The Homeless Hats Project: Knit and Sit"! We meet every Sunday at 3pm via Zoom (see website schedule) with a once a month meeting in-person at the Dharma Bum Temple. We make warm hats (beanies) to pass out to the people living on the streets of downtown San Diego. Each meeting has a brief meditation followed by knitting and joyful conversation. Not to worry, we will teach you how to make the beanies, it is simple and fun!
We’re looking for volunteers to make hats (no knitting skills needed) and donations of supplies. We are also accepting donations of leftover yarn from DBT knitters, chunky size is preferred. It’s a great way to practice giving (Dana) and get excess yarn cleared out!
Supplies will be shipped to a central location and will be given to those who want to make the beanies. We will then coordinate a single contactless drop off point for the beanies and we have a safe distribution plan.
How to Help/Get Involved:
1. We have created an Amazon Wishlist of the supplies, please consider donating some items.
2. Join the Facebook Group for additional information and stay informed.
3. If you want to learn to make the beanies (it is simple) join us via Zoom Sundays at 3pm.
