Meditation and Gratitude at Vi La Jolla Retirement Community

On Tuesday, April 21st, Dharma Bum Temple co-founder Jeffrey Zlotnik had the privilege of visiting the Vi La Jolla retirement community, where he led a guided meditation and offered a talk on the practice of gratitude.

The session began with a gentle meditation, inviting residents to settle the mind, relax the body, and reconnect with a sense of present-moment awareness. The atmosphere was calm and supportive, with many participants expressing appreciation for the opportunity to pause and reflect together.

Following the meditation, Jeffrey led a discussion on gratitude, exploring how a simple shift in attention toward appreciation can meaningfully transform our experience of daily life. The conversation touched on practical ways to cultivate gratitude, even in challenging circumstances, and how this practice can support greater ease, connection, and resilience.

This visit is part of our ongoing Meditation Outreach Program, which brings mindfulness and meditation practices into schools, community centers, retirement communities, and other spaces beyond the temple.

If you or your organization is interested in bringing meditation and mindfulness to your community or workplace, please feel free to reach out, we would love to connect.

The gathering at Vi La Jolla was warmly received by residents and staff alike, highlighting the value of bringing contemplative practice into community settings. Moments like these reflect the shared human capacity for mindfulness, kindness, and reflection at any stage of life.

We are grateful to the Vi La Jolla community for the invitation and warm welcome, and for the opportunity to share these practices together.
