PRISON OUTREACH PROGRAM

"The way is not in the sky, the way is in the heart." ~ Buddha

The Dharma Bum Temple Prison Outreach Program is an important part of our community service efforts. Dharma Bums volunteer in local prisons and share Dharma and meditation with inmates on a weekly basis. Our hope is that inmates who practice the Dharma and take care of their minds will have a better chance of reintegration with society.

Prisons require a background check and orientation before you get started.  The exact requirements and orientation dates vary by the particular facility, so check with the volunteer coordinator. We are open to adding new locations to our Prison Outreach Program, but it would require at least a 1 year commitment to regular meetings (weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly) and require a leader or combination of leaders able to commit to this time frame.

Please contact us if interested in becoming a volunteer with our Prison Outreach Program.
