Just one week after closing on the new Dharma Bum Temple building back in April 2017, something truly special unfolded. On April 22nd and 23rd, our community came together, not for a formal event, not for a scheduled class, but for something even more meaningful: to care for the space that would soon become a home for so many.
People arrived with open hearts and willing hands. There were no expectations, no need for recognition, just a shared understanding that this place mattered. Floors were swept, walls were wiped down, windows cleaned, corners cleared. Every act, no matter how small, carried a quiet sense of devotion. It wasn’t just about cleaning a building. It was about setting an intention.
In those early days, before the cushions were laid out, the temple was already alive, with generosity, connection, and care. People of all backgrounds showed up, worked side by side, shared conversations, and built something far deeper than a physical space.

There was a feeling in the air that weekend, one of gratitude and possibility. The kind of feeling that reminds you a temple is not defined by its walls, but by the people who bring it to life.
Looking back, those two days were more than a cleanup. They were a beginning. A moment when the community placed its imprint on the space, not just through effort, but through love. And in many ways, that spirit continues to carry the Dharma Bum Temple forward today.
