Volunteering with the World Beat Center for Earth Day felt like stepping into a living practice of compassion. I met the amazing CEO, Makeda, whose presence alone feels like a blessing. She fills the world with so much love that you can feel it the moment she speaks. I also had the joy of working alongside Berenice, the Volunteer Director, who pours her whole heart into the people and mission of the Center.
We talked about culture, love, and kindness, and then joined a team of volunteers to put those values into action. I cleaned bathrooms, helped with setup, greeted guests all simple tasks, yet each one felt like a mindful offering to the Earth and to our community.
The day reminded me that service is a form of practice. When we care for the planet and for one another, we embody the teachings of interconnection and loving awareness.
