Benoit Denizet-Lewis – Author of You’ve Changed

We are honored to welcome author and journalist Benoit Denizet-Lewis Saturday May 16th at 11am as a special guest at Dharma Bum Temple. His newest book, You’ve Changed: The Promise and Price of Self-Transformation (publishing April 2026), explores the nature of transformation—how and why people change, why change can feel difficult, and what it means to consciously shape who we become. Through deeply human stories, the book reflects on impermanence, identity, and the ongoing process of becoming ourselves.

One of the stories featured in You’ve Changed centers on Jeff Zlotnik, co-founder of Dharma Bum Temple. Jeff was interviewed for the book, and his life story—one of the narratives explored—speaks to the experiences that ultimately led to the creation of the temple and the community that exists today.

As Sharon Salzberg, author of Lovingkindness and Real Life, writes: “Buddhism teaches us about the inherent impermanence of our existence, but when it comes to actively changing who we are and how we relate to the world, it doesn't always feel like that mutability applies to us. In You’ve Changed, Denizet-Lewis digs into why and how people change, reminding us that it’s never too late to be the versions of ourselves we long to become.”

Benoit Denizet-Lewis is an associate professor at Emerson College and a longtime contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine. He is the author of three books, including America Anonymous: Eight Addicts in Search of a Life and the New York Times bestseller Travels with Casey: My Journey Through Our Dog-Crazy Country. A New America Fellow and NEH Public Scholar, he divides his time between Boston and Prague.
